Walking in the forest

Imagine if, while walking in the forest, there were buttons to choose whether to go north, south, east, or west, and you had to take your chances. Like, maybe you'd stumble upon story quests, help villagers, get NPCs, and receive rewards, or maybe you'd get lost and couldn't find a checkpoint. I'm not being serious about this, you don't have to worry about it. I was just thinking out loud.
