You just go in the forest and every so often you see a beefalo or something in the mist and automatically shoot at it. Same with logs, every so often you come across a fallen tree and collect logs from it. My recommendation is go to the University and do a few hunting, logging and foraging courses, they'll probably help. Even if don't have work experience vouchers, you can just enroll in one and let it run for a little.

Is the squank meat found in the forest as well?
Yes, Beefalo, squonk, wolpertinger, hugag are all found the forest. Auto-forest will be coming soon as well.
I'm so glad to hear that. I like walking through the forest but when I have heaps of things to do in real life it would be good to have an auto pilot option.
