Questions on Weresquirrel

I have been upgrading my female Weresquirrel for a bit and find it strange that for some reason whenever I try to get ancient gifts, the damage dealt to Whiskers is dropped rapidly, like 100k to 5k. This might be from Ronin Stance but the weirdest thing is that it carries after when I fight in the arena. The good thing I guess is that it seems to wear off in a couple turns, but whenever I fight for ancient gifts it reappears. I don't have a negative status effect, so I'm wondering if this is a bug.

Also, this happens with other pets too, sometimes it does the correct amount of damage other times it does really low amounts.
The Whiskers keep getting more defense so that's why the damage drops. As for the other times, it's probably because you're getting critical sometimes but I'm obviously not positive.

The enemy Whiskers receives a random set of ancient gifts each battle. I'm guessing that the enemy Whiskers sometimes receives a lot more gifts of ice that increase defense. Multi-hitter pets like Weresquirrel have their damage reduced a lot more by defense since each hit has the damage reduced by defense. So if you hit 100 times for 1,000 damage each and the target has 500 defense, you will only hit for 50,000 damage instead of 99,500 damage.
Okay, that makes sense, I'm just wondering but Ronin's reckoning does a lot of damage when I hit Whiskers first, like 30 million but when I just use a health potion on my initial turn it only does 40k damage, is that supposed to happen? Also why can't I get any info on what Ronin's Reckoning does.
It does more damage the more you do, so if you dont do a lot of damage it will deal less, and if you do more damage it will hit for more damage
Oh, that's probably why it does like 40 million dmg when I attack it.
